Hannagan Meadow sits high in the White Mountains near the New Mexico border and becomes a base camp for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snow tubing during winter. The area offers pristine backcountry trails through old-growth forest at over 9,000 feet elevation. The historic Hannagan Meadow Lodge provides lodging, meals, and a cozy fireplace after a day on the trails.

Hannagan Meadow Lodge is a rare find—classic, unpretentious, and exactly what a high-country lodge should be. From the moment I checked in, the atmosphere felt timeless and welcoming, like stepping into a place that values comfort and authenticity over trends. What truly sets this lodge apart is the service. The same woman who checked me in also cooked both dinner and breakfast, and that personal touch made the experience feel genuine rather than transactional. It’s the kind of hospitality you don’t see much anymore, and it shows how much pride goes into the place. Dinner was an exceptional value. The salad bar was fresh and well-stocked, and the homemade chicken noodle soup was outstanding—simple, hearty, and clearly made from scratch. It felt like a meal prepared for guests, not customers. If you’re looking for polished luxury, this isn’t that—and that’s exactly the point. Hannagan Meadow Lodge delivers classic atmosphere, honest comfort, and real hospitality. I’d gladly stay here again.

Stayed in ‘Riley’ cabin for late season elk hunt (November). I cannot speak highly enough of the kindness of everyone at the lodge. The accommodations were wonderful. The meals are delicious and very reasonably priced. Special thanks to Charlene for her incredible hospitality. True small town charm. Hannagan Meadow Lodge is a truly special place.

RESTAURANT: After a long drive, we decided to eat lunch inside Hannagan Meadow Lodge, and for it being in the middle of nowhere, IT WAS AMAZING. The property was absolutely peaceful and beautiful. The food was extremely good, service was really slow, but it makes sense because of where it’s at. I’d definitely recommend eating at this little hidden gem! Fresh food, great vibes!

Lodge is very quaint and friendly. I arrived on a motorcycle in the pouring rain. The wood fire was nice and warm and perfect. The hospitality was great and met some very nice guests. The room was a single that is small but was very clean and comfortable. It was all I needed. I would highly recommend staying here if you are planning on riding on the 191.

When put into perspective that this is an historic site, we really appreciated what efforts must be made daily to provide the unique experience of Hannagan Meadows! Our room was clean, while providing necessities. We were made to feel welcome and valued by all. Very nice.
