I really enjoy this place: menu, concept, and vibe. I’ve been going here for years each time I visit Phoenix. Unfortunately I can’t keep up with the name changes and subdividing/expanding. The signage doesn’t help. (See pic) The former name “Italian Restaurant” is still painted on the glass above the “other” half (i.e. the pizzeria.) Tratto, the restaurant’s next iteration, seems to have been split off now and runs its own operation in the front part of the building. Its sign is very hard to see. Alas, it is well worth a little effort to find this dining room. The staff is always knowledgeable and helpful. The house made pasta was a real textural treat. The contorni (carrots) were treated with just enough panache (rosemary and pine nuts) to make them elegant, still letting the fresh flavors of the base ingredients shine through. The atmosphere is a mix of casual and formal (white tablecloth.) I love that the menu changes seasonally; at the same time, it remains limited/ focused for best quality.

Reading the website, I thought I was going to get something really special for both my husband and my birthday dinner. I called ahead to make sure there were vegetarian options and let them know we were celebrating. When we got there, the hostess said she would tell the server about the birthdays, but the server never acknowledged or said anything about it. Then when placing our order, it turned out the main course was not vegetarian, so I had to get extra of the other courses so I could eat when my husband's main course came out, rather than watching him. Some of the courses were good, but others were really lacking flavor. Service was just okay. Atmosphere was just okay. I was pretty let down by the experience and definitely wouldn't say it's worth the price point.

It's sort of weird to have such a neat spot in a strip mall (though that seems to be a thing in Phoenix). The menu is small but they do everything on it well and it probably changes often since they don't publish it online. Small wine menu but I loved the Cremant d'Alsace (sparkling). The budino for dessert was worth being overly full for!

Every single visit reminds us why this is our go-to spot for date night when we’re in Phoenix. The food is consistently out of this world—thoughtful, elevated, and absolutely delicious—but what really sets Tratto apart is the service. Our server, Cass, remembered us and remembered that I’m vegetarian, which honestly blew us away—especially considering we don’t even live in Phoenix. That level of care, attention, and genuine hospitality is rare and unforgettable. From the atmosphere to the food to the phenomenal service, Tratto never misses. If you’re looking for a place that makes you feel known, welcomed, and incredibly well-fed, this is it. We’ll keep coming back every time we’re in town. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Four of us stopped by without a reservation when restaurant was a third empty. First person was friendly but person in charge of seating looked at us like we were crazy. She could not have been any less friendly. We ate across the way where we had an excellent meal and looked into Tratto on our way out and the same empty tables were there. So much for the reservations but I gather they are doing so well that they do not need customers.
