Yes, anyone 10 years or older needs a valid Arizona fishing license. You can purchase one online at the Arizona Game & Fish Department website (azgfd.com). Options include daily, annual, and combination licenses. A general fishing license costs around $37 for residents and $55 for non-residents annually.
Arizona is a top bass fishing destination. Lake Pleasant, Roosevelt Lake, and Saguaro Lake are consistently rated among the best for largemouth bass. Lake Havasu is world-renowned for trophy bass fishing with 5+ lb catches common. Bartlett Lake and Canyon Lake in the Tonto National Forest are also excellent options close to Phoenix.
Trout fishing in Arizona is best in the higher elevations. Woods Canyon Lake, Willow Springs Lake, and Big Lake in the White Mountains offer excellent trout fishing. The East Verde River near Payson and the Colorado River below Glen Canyon Dam are premier fly fishing destinations. Many lakes are stocked with rainbow trout during cooler months.
Arizona offers year-round fishing. Spring (March-May) is prime for bass as they move to shallow water for spawning. Summer fishing is best at higher elevation lakes or early morning at desert lakes.
