Arizona's top-rated restaurants include Binkley's Restaurant in Cave Creek (James Beard nominated), Kai at Sheraton Wild Horse Pass (AAA Five Diamond), Café Monarch in Scottsdale (#1 on TripAdvisor), Talavera at Four Seasons, and FnB Restaurant (James Beard Award winner). Arizona has incredible Mexican cuisine due to its proximity to Mexico. Top spots include Barrio Café in Phoenix (Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza), Los Dos Molinos for New Mexican-style dishes, El Chorro for upscale Southwestern, and countless authentic taquerias in South Phoenix and Tucson. Tucson was named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy largely due to its Mexican food heritage.
Scottsdale is home to exceptional steakhouses including Mastro's City Hall (known for their butter cake), Dominick's Steakhouse, Steak 44, The Capital Grille, and Ruth's Chris Steak House. For a unique experience, try Bourbon Steak at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess or J&G Steakhouse at The Phoenician.
Phoenix has a thriving brunch scene. Popular spots include Hash Kitchen (known for build-your-own Bloody Mary bar), The Henry, Snooze an A.M. Eatery, Matt's Big Breakfast, Butters Pancakes & Café, and Over Easy. For upscale brunch, try Elements at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain or The Farm at South Mountain.
For fine dining and popular restaurants, reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season (October-April) and on weekends. Many restaurants use OpenTable or Resy for reservations. Casual dining spots typically don't require reservations but may have wait times during busy hours. During major events like the Phoenix Open or spring training, book well in advance.
Arizona is known for Sonoran-style Mexican food (including the famous Sonoran hot dog), Southwestern cuisine featuring chiles and native ingredients, farm-to-table dining with local produce, craft breweries and wineries, and innovative fusion restaurants. Tucson is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, and Phoenix has a rapidly growing culinary scene with James Beard-recognized chefs.
